A First of the Month Reset: Clearing Stagnant Energy & Setting New Intentions

Okay, technically I missed the first of the month.

And you know what?

I’m deciding that doesn’t matter.

Because tonight, when I get home, I’m resetting anyway.

My house has felt a little stagnant lately. Not necessarily dirty. Not chaotic. Just... heavy. Like the energy has been sitting still for a little too long.

And sometimes I think our homes start carrying what we’ve been carrying.

Stress.

Exhaustion.

Self doubt.

Conversations we keep replaying.

Things we haven't quite figured out yet.

The little pieces of life that somehow end up shoved into the emotional junk drawer.

After the month I wrote about in my Harvest Full Moon blog, I think I'm ready for things to feel lighter.

So tonight, I'm cleaning house.

Literally.

Energetically.

Emotionally.

And probably a little aggressively if we're being honest.

Don't worry, though. I'll have my headphones in and the music blaring through them while I do it.

I've been really feeling country lately, so I'm thinking Kip Moore, Eric Church, a little Ella Langley and Lainey Wilson, and obviously we need some Chris Stapleton mixed in there.

Apparently my spiritual cleansing ritual also requires a soundtrack.

I don't make the rules.

Why the First of the Month Feels So Significant

There is something about turning the calendar to a new month that feels different to me.

It's another beginning.

Not as dramatic as January 1st. Not the pressure of an entirely new year and some giant list of resolutions we're supposedly going to follow for the next twelve months.

Just a quiet little opportunity to ask yourself:

What am I carrying that I don't want to carry anymore?

What do I want more of?

What kind of energy do I want surrounding me this month?

And maybe most importantly...

What am I ready to make room for?

First of the month rituals have become popular in spiritual communities for exactly that reason. One you may have seen is blowing cinnamon through your front door to symbolically invite abundance and prosperity into your home.

I've actually done this ritual before.

At my old house.

But for some reason, I haven't done it here yet.

And while writing this, I started wondering why.

Maybe I've Been Holding Back a Little

Maybe it's because Cody, Rylee and Raegan might giggle at me.

Because let's be serious, they probably will.

Here comes Taryn, opening all the windows, walking around with sage, wiping down doors, lighting candles and blowing cinnamon into the house.

Totally normal evening over here.

But then another thought hit me.

Who cares?

This is my home too.

Actually...

This is our home.

And I get to be exactly who I am inside of it.

Spiritual.

A little woo woo.

A little witchy.

The woman walking around with crystals in one hand and cleaning supplies in the other while Eric Church is screaming through her headphones.

All of it.

Because the truth is, I wouldn't be here, building this life with them, if they didn't love me for who I am.

And maybe that's something I need to remind myself of more often.

Stop doubting the people who have already shown you that they love you.

Stop shrinking parts of yourself because you're worried someone might think they're silly.

Let them giggle.

Maybe someday they'll even look forward to my weird little rituals.

Maybe they'll roll their eyes and say, "Oh lord, she's got the sage again."

I'll take it.

Because I want this house to have pieces of all of us inside of it.

And this is one of mine.

First, I'm Cleaning Everything

And I mean cleaning.

Tonight I want to completely clean my bedroom, wash the bedding, pick everything up, wipe everything down and put things back where they belong.

I want to clean the spaces I've been ignoring.

Move things around.

Get rid of clutter.

Vacuum the corners.

Open the curtains...

Oh wait. We don't have curtains.

Because we live in the country with basically no neighbors.

Honestly? One less thing to clean.

Because sometimes changing the energy starts with physically changing the space.

I don't know about you, but when my environment starts feeling cluttered, eventually my brain starts feeling cluttered too.

So this reset begins with creating a home that feels good to walk back into.

Not perfect.

Not Instagram clean.

Just ours.

Comfortable. Lived in. Loved.

Open the Windows and Let It OUT

This might be my favorite part.

I'm opening the doors.

I'm opening the windows.

And I'm letting the air move through the house.

Even if it's chilly outside, give me ten minutes.

There is something incredibly satisfying about imagining all of that stagnant energy finally having somewhere to go.

As I clean, I want to consciously think about what I'm releasing.

The stress from last month.

The bills I worried about.

The self doubt.

Old wounds that decided to knock on the door again.

The things I replayed in my head too many times.

The things that simply don't deserve another month of my energy.

Out.

You don't live here anymore.

And while I'm at it, neither does the version of me who thinks she has to make herself smaller to be loved.

She can go too.

Cleansing Our Home With Intention

Once everything is physically clean, I'll move through the house with Palo Santo and sage.

This is where I slow down.

Because I'm not just trying to make the house smell good.

I'm thinking about what I want this home to feel like.

Love.

Peace.

Protection.

Laughter.

Comfort.

Safety.

Especially safety.

I want Rylee and Raegan to always feel safe here.

Safe with their dad.

Safe with me.

Safe walking through the door and knowing this is their home too.

I want Cody to feel that.

I want to feel that.

I want all of us to love coming home.

Because when I think about the energy I want to bring into this house, that's really what matters.

I don't need our home to have perfect energy every second. We're human. We're going to have bad days. We're going to be annoyed. Someone is probably going to leave something where it doesn't belong approximately five minutes after I finish cleaning.

That's life.

But underneath all of it?

I want love here.

I want safety here.

I want everyone who belongs in this home to know that they belong here.

Maybe that's the most powerful intention I can set.

Cleaning the Front and Back Door

I'm also wiping down both my front and back doors.

They're the places where we enter and leave our home over and over again, and symbolically, I love the idea of cleaning those thresholds while thinking about what I'm allowing in and what I'm ready to let leave.

As I wipe them down, my intention is simple:

Anything that doesn't belong here can leave.

Anything entering our home should come with love, peace and good intentions.

And anything heavy that we've carried home with us?

You can stay at the door.

Then I'm lighting a candle.

That little flame is my marker.

The cleaning part is over.

Now we're welcoming something new.

And Yes... I'm Bringing Back the Cinnamon

This is the part I'm actually excited about.

The cinnamon.

I've done the first of the month cinnamon ritual before, but like I said, somehow I haven't brought it into this home yet.

So we're changing that.

A popular version of the ritual is incredibly simple.

You stand outside your front door facing inward toward your home, place a little ground cinnamon in your hand, think about the abundance you want to welcome into your life, and blow it through the doorway.

Yes, I'm aware of how this looks.

Yes, there's a decent chance someone in this house is going to laugh at me.

That's fine.

Welcome to living with me.

But this time, I don't only want to invite financial abundance.

I want abundance in every form.

More love.

More laughter.

More memories.

More peace.

More opportunities.

More growth for CAE's Crystals.

More creativity.

More evenings where we all feel completely comfortable being exactly who we are.

And more moments where I stop long enough to realize that maybe some of the things I once hoped for are already standing right in front of me.

That's abundance too.

"Everything Is Energy"... Except Einstein Apparently Didn't Say That

Okay, this one made me laugh.

While I was writing this blog, I knew I wanted to include a quote I've seen approximately a million times:

"Everything is energy and that's all there is to it."

And in my head, I thought...

Einstein.

Obviously.

So I started looking it up because I wanted to make sure I quoted it correctly.

Turns out...

Albert Einstein apparently never said it.

Well, there goes that.

The quote is constantly attributed to him online, but when I actually started researching its origin, I learned that there isn't evidence connecting those words to Einstein. The wording appears to be associated instead with material from Darryl Anka and Bashar.

So apparently today's spiritual lesson also includes fact checking your Pinterest quotes.

Who knew?

But even without Einstein's name attached to it, the idea behind those words still made me stop and think.

Because I do believe the energy we bring into our lives matters.

Where we put our attention matters.

The environment we create around ourselves matters.

How we speak to ourselves matters.

How we make the people we love feel inside our homes matters.

And sometimes changing the energy around us doesn't require some giant life transformation.

Sometimes it starts with cleaning your bedroom.

Opening a window.

Lighting a candle.

Blowing cinnamon through your front door while your family wonders what the heck you're doing.

And deciding:

I want something to feel different.

Three Things I'm Calling Into This Month

Once everything is clean, the windows have been opened, the house has been cleansed, my cinnamon has been blown everywhere and the candle is burning, I'm going to sit down and write three things I want to manifest this month.

Only three.

Because let's be honest, I don't need another giant list of twenty-seven things I'm supposed to accomplish.

I want three intentions that actually mean something to me.

And then I'm going to ask myself:

What can I actually do this month to help create them?

Because manifestation, at least for me, isn't sitting around waiting for the universe to magically drop something onto my doorstep.

It's setting the intention.

It's focusing your energy.

And then it's doing something about it.

If I want CAE's Crystals to grow, I have to keep showing up for it.

If I want more peace, I have to protect some of my time.

If I want confidence, I have to stop feeding every thought that tells me I'm not doing enough.

If I want deeper relationships, I need to nurture the people who nurture me.

Intentions need action.

Maybe manifestation is partly about asking the universe for what you want.

But maybe it's also about showing the universe you're willing to meet it halfway.

Crystals for a New Month Reset

Obviously there are going to be crystals involved.

You knew that was coming.

A monthly reset is actually a beautiful time to cleanse the crystals you already have and choose a few that represent what you're calling into the month ahead.

I might reach for Clear Quartz when I'm setting my intentions, Citrine when I'm focusing on abundance and growth, Black Tourmaline when I'm thinking about grounding and protecting our home, and Amethyst when I want to bring in a calmer, more peaceful energy.

You can also explore the collections at CAE's Crystals and choose something based not only on what looks beautiful, but what represents the energy you're trying to create.

Put it somewhere you'll see it.

Let it become a physical reminder of the promises you made to yourself at the beginning of the month.

Because sometimes we need those little reminders.

You Didn't Miss Your Reset

And maybe this is the biggest thing I needed to hear myself say.

I missed October 1st.

I'm doing this October 2nd.

And guess what?

The universe isn't standing there with a clipboard checking dates.

"Sorry, Taryn. Your spiritual cleansing paperwork was due yesterday."

No.

If you're reading this on the 7th, reset on the 7th.

If you're reading this halfway through the month and everything feels heavy, open the windows.

Clean your room.

Move the furniture.

Light the candle.

Write down what you want.

Clean your crystals.

Put your headphones in.

Turn on whatever music makes you feel like yourself again.

Dance around the kitchen while you mop the floors if that's what you need.

Your fresh start doesn't expire.

You don't need permission from a calendar to decide that you're ready for different energy.

Here's to Our New Month

Tonight I'm cleaning.

I'm opening the windows.

I'm cleansing our home.

I'm wiping down the doors.

I'm blowing my cinnamon through the front door again.

I'm lighting my candle.

I'm writing my three intentions.

And somewhere between Kip Moore, Eric Church, Ella Langley, Lainey Wilson and Chris Stapleton, I'll probably dance around the house at least once.

Then I'm going to sit down for a minute.

In our home.

That's the part I don't want to skim over anymore.

Our home.

A home where I get to be loved exactly as I am.

A home where I want Cody, Rylee and Raegan to feel safe, loved and completely at home.

A home where apparently cinnamon may occasionally come flying through the front door.

And after spending too much of last month thinking about what wasn't happening fast enough, what wasn't going right and what I still needed to accomplish, I'm ready to put different energy into October.

I don't know exactly what this month is going to bring.

But I know what I'm making room for.

Love.

Safety.

Peace.

Abundance.

Growth.

Laughter.

And whatever comes next.

Maybe that's what a reset really is.

Not becoming a new person.

Just clearing enough space to come home to yourself again.
